She's Got A Ticket To Ride

/~I think I'm gonna be sad
I think it's today, yeh~/

Heero watched as Relena threw her things into a bag. He felt distanced to what went on around him. She was yelling at him again. Maybe she'd finally had enough this time. A small ribbon of hope started to unfurl in his heart.

Relena threw an armload of underwear into the suitcase on the bed.

"Do you want some help with that?"

Relena glared at him. If looks could kill he'd be dead before he hit the floor. Suddenly it dawned on him. What Duo always kidded him on; the (should be) patented Heero Yuy death glare.

Relena zipped the case shut and threw it at him. "Take it outside." She hissed.

Heero turned and walked out of the bedroom. Four months. She had moved in and lived with him for four months. Now, maybe, he'd get some peace. No more, will you do this, do you want to do this, come with me, I want to do this, or "Heero, could you please-"?

He walked out to the curb and set the suitcase down on the sidewalk next to the cab. It used to be that she'd have a limo waiting for her. Quite a change. Heero thought a minute about how she'd get back to Sank; that's right, the train.

/~She said that living with me is bringing her down, yeh
For she would never be free
When I was around ~/

Heero walked back into the house and the shit storm. She heard the door shut behind him and started yelling again. He could hear the clink of her perfume bottles and toiletries getting tossed into another bag.

"You've kept me more of a prisoner her than either my own Father or Brother ever did! We never go anywhere, you never pay the least attention to me... You never do –anything- except occasionally cook and type and watch that silly old movie and talk to Duo!"

Heero rolled his eyes. "An Affair to Remember."

"I DON'T CARE WHAT THE TITLE OF THE BLASTED MOVIE IS!"

She's got a ticket to ride

But she don't care ~/

Heero sighed and sat down on the couch. Only ten more minutes judging her state of mind. Ten more minutes and she'd be free of him. She had her own strength now. He mentally winced as his throbbing jaw reminded him of how strong she'd actually gotten. Even now he couldn't do anything to her. Not even if she hit him.

/~I don't know why she's riding so high
She ought to think twice
She ought to do right by me~/

He should give her some money. Cab fares could be brutal and it would be the gentlemanly thing to pay for her ticket home. "Do you have money for your train ticket?"

"Bite me Heero! Generosity will get you nothing! I bet you don't even care that I'm leaving! Well you know what? You can just piss off! I don't need you Heero!"

That much is obvious.

"I heard that Heero!"

Heero blinked. He didn't think he'd said that out loud. He turned toward the doorway.

Relena came to the doorway, plastic grocery bag in one hand and a toothbrush in the other. She threw the toothbrush at him. "You BASTARD!"

/~Before she gets to saying goodbye
She ought to think twice
She ought to do right by me ~/

"I just offered to pay for your train ticket, I can toss in the cab fare, too. You won't have to worry about a thing."

"You so eager to get rid of me? Arrogant emotionless prick! I bet you don't even know what you just said!" Relena marched out the door and tossed the bag at the cabbie.

Heero leaned over and picked up the toothbrush from the floor. He held it up as Relena stomped passed him again. "You forgot this."

Relena ignored the offered item and slammed the door on the bedroom.

/~I think I'm gonna be sad
I think it's today, yeh~/

Heero listened to the windows rattle with the force of the slam. "Hn." He stared at the now closed door. What should he do now? Heero picked up the phone and dialed Duo's number. After the third ring, he picked up.

"Hello?"

"She's leaving."

"You're kidding! It's been, like what, four months? Five?"

"Four months, two days."

"I don't think she'll come back either."

A click. The phone slammed. "Heero! GET OFF THE PHONE!"

A smirk twinged at the corners of his mouth. "See what I mean?"

"She sounds pissed."

Heero smothered the now full-blown grin with his hand. "You should have heard her earlier."

She ought to do right by me ~/

"I don't know what triggered this. One minute she's nice and normal. The next she gave me a right hook and a major bitch fit."

Duo laughed. "Lemme guess. You were either on the computer or trying to decide what movie to watch?"

"Both. Hacking into Une's files while uploading "An Affair to Remember" onto my laptop."

/~Before she gets to saying goodbye
She ought to think twice
She ought to do right by me ~/

"Fine Heero! You won't get off the fucking phone so I'm taking yours and using it!"

"Did she just swear?" Disbelief colored Duo's voice.

"For the second time I've heard today." He replied.

Relena threw open the bedroom door, ignoring it as it bounced back and hit one of the two last suitcases. She dragged the bags out the door, cell phone tucked into her ear. "Good BYE, Heero Yuy!" She snapped as she staggered toward the front door.

Heero watched her fight with the bags. "Do you want some help?"

"NO!"

"You know, Duo, I think she really meant this."

"Y'think?"

Heero watched as the poor cabby took her bags and lifted them into the trunk. Relena wrenched open the door and practically threw herself in, slamming the door behind her.

"So... is she gone yet?"

Heero looked out the door again. The cab pulled slowly away from the curb. Relena must have yelled at the driver because the cab lurched forward as the cabby hit the gas hard. "She is now."

"Great, can I come over?"

Heero smiled. "Bring dinner and a movie?"

"'An Affair to Remember' doesn't have the same impact as it once did... How about... Oh... 'Ten Things I Hate About You?'"

"A change? Accepted. Only if you bring a change of clothing though, I have no intention of letting you leave here tonight."

Duo's voice took on a distinctively sexy tone. "Oh? And what if I don't want to go back home ever?"

Heero smirked. "I'll help you move?"

"See you in half an hour."

Heero heard a click as Duo hung up the phone. He knew he was grinning. The plan worked and Relena was gone for good.
